1. Create four zones
Use keep, donate, sell and remove as your starting categories. Avoid putting uncertain items in the removal pile until you have decided what they are.
2. Work from the back forward
Start with the areas that are hardest to reach. This makes it easier to see how much material is actually there.
3. Separate unusual materials
Paint, chemicals, batteries, electronics and other materials may have different disposal requirements. Do not assume everything belongs in one junk load.
4. Photograph the final removal pile
Take a few wide photos and close-ups of unusually large items. Photos can make a quote request much easier to understand.
5. Keep the access path clear
If someone will be removing material, identify the driveway, gate and clearest path out before the project begins.
