Start before the final moving day
Separate items that are moving with you from items that will be donated, sold, recycled or removed. Starting early gives you time to handle materials that need a different disposal option.
Work room by room
Finish one area at a time and keep a clear path through the property. This makes it easier to see what remains and reduces last-minute decisions.
Identify large items
Make a list of furniture, appliances, mattresses, garage contents and other bulky items. Note anything that is upstairs, unusually heavy or difficult to access.
Protect items that remain
Clearly separate belongings that stay with the property or move with you. Keep important documents, valuables and personal items away from the removal area.
Photograph the finished removal list
Photos can help communicate the amount of material and access conditions when requesting service. Include wide views and close-ups of unusually large items.
